Ruthie Bullock Obituary

Ruthie Ann Bullock, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on April 3, 2021. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, she graduated from Murrah High School in Jackson and attended LSU. She permanently moved to Baton Rouge from Mobile, Alabama with her husband, Joe, and son, Josh, in 1979. Ruthie Ann loved four things above all else: her faith, her family, her friends and LSU sports. She enjoyed being at the beach, going to the movies, and spending time with family and friends. Ruthie Ann was known for always being there when a friend was in need. She was unstoppable when trying to make dreams come true for those she loved. Nothing embodied this more than when she sat for hours at the private airport in Baton Rouge to meet Joe Burrow upon his return from winning the Heisman Trophy in order to get autographed footballs for her grandson and son. Ruthie Ann was preceded in death by her father, Dr. James Victor Russell. She is survived by her mother, Ruth Toups Russell Monsour of Jackson, Mississippi; son, Josh, daughter-in-law Amanda, and three grandchildren, Caroline, Luke, and Anna Katherine, of Austin, Texas; Dr. Joe Bullock of Bolton, Mississippi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Doug Varney of Madison, Mississippi, and Mona and John Runge of Hideaway, Texas; two nephews and their wives and children, Jonathan and Brittany Varney and daughters Samantha and Scarlett of Gulfport, Mississippi and Elliot and Callie Varney, and son James Thomas of Jackson, Mississippi, a niece, Victoria Runge Hancock and her husband, Blair, of Fort Worth, Texas. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm and the service beginning at 1:30pm, and burial will be at City Cemetery in Crystal Springs, Mississippi on April 24, 2021 at 11am. Her family is so appreciative of the love and support from Ruthie Ann's friends, extended family, and caregivers over the past weeks. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 or Retreat Center dedicated to Our Lady of the Cenacle 5500 St. Mary Street, Metairie, LA 70006.

Ruthie Ann was such a woman of character and grace. I knew her through working with her in our dance clubs. She was always willing to go the extra mile with a smile on her face! She was loved and will be missed by so many. The service was a beautiful honor to her. Heaven is now even better with Ruthie Ann there.

So sorry for your loss, she was a kind sweet lady. I worked with her at Stein Mart, years ago. But she was very nice and she actually wrote me a great recommendation to nursing school. I saw her about three months ago and we laughed and caught up on life. I'm glad we had that time .
