Steve Robert Smith Sr., a native of Plaqumine and resident of Sunshine, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the age of 77. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, who enjoyed spending time and making memories with his family. He built Smith's Appliance Service and retired from Gillis W. Long Center in Carville, LA. He had a deep love for his family, playing tennis, and the outdoors. Wow what a life and what a ride it's been. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Rome Smith; daughter, Dayna Smith Traigle (Todd); son, Steve R. Smith Jr. (Timi); granddaughters, Kristin Starkovich (Ken), Kaitlyn Mitchell (Jon), Courtney Babin ( Jared), Megan Lowe (Blaine), Sarah Waguespack ( Ryan), Candace Smith (Brady Carlton), Alexandra Martinez (Dylan), and Jordan St. Amant; 12 great grandchildren, who called him Pappy; 4 siblings. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rita Guidry Smith. A private family gathering to honor Steve's life will be held at a later date. Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales is in charge of arrangements.
