Velton Joseph Thibodeaux, a native of Church Point, LA and resident of Prairieville, LA, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the age of 84. He and his wife Doris were members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic minister and layman. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. A dedicated husband and father, Velton was married to Doris for 58 years and parented three children with her. For the last 30 years of Doris's life, she was stricken with Parkinson's disease and Velton loyally committed himself to her care. He and his brothers and family friend, Russell Jacobson, built his Prairieville home where his family resided for 32 years. Raised on a farm as a boy, Velton loved working the soil. He tilled a vegetable garden no matter where he lived and always found an excuse to be outdoors. He proudly served in the US Army, Velton had a long career as a master diesel/hydraulic mechanic specializing in diagnoses and repair of all types of heavy earth equipment. A majority of his work tenure was with Boyce Machinery, Reserve, LA. Boyce valued his expertise and work ethic, locating him to hundreds of jobsites around the state. Velton conducted jobsite training workshops in Honduras, Central America. He retired in 1997. Velton is survived by his daughter, Pamela T. Carter and husband, Jean Jr., Paula T. Knaps and husband, Robert; son, Tim Thibodeaux and wife, Babette; grandchildren, Greg Knaps, Rebecca Strickland, Christina Rambin, Jake Carter, Frances Abrams, Jennifer Blocker, Anna Thibodeaux; great-grandchildren, Jeannae', Damon, Brandon, Ethan, Saniya, Kenlee, Elee, and Evan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Doris Thibodeaux; parents, Saulie and Theolise Dies Thibodeaux; grandson, Mikey Pizzolato, Jr.; siblings, Hilda, Ida, Burchman, Leroy, and Horace. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memories Cemetery in Prairieville.
