Walter Lawrence ""Dub"" ""Wally"" Downs, a native of Mississippi and a resident of Prairieville, passed away at the age of 87. He was a father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He enjoyed gardening, painting, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of Ascension Baptist Church where he loved studying scripture. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Pizzuto (Bill) and Angela Shuler (Kenny); one son, Michael Poche (Boo); one sister, Mary Beard; six grandchildren, April Powell, Timothy Rolf, Monica Poret, Gabrielle Pizzuto, Jake Poche and Mason Poche; and six great-grandchildren; Gabriel Rolf, Waylon Rolf, Harley Poret, Liam Poret, Sailor Powell and Sookie Powell, along with a host of nieces and nephews that adored Uncle Dub. He is preceded by his parents, Myrtie Robenson and Willie L. Downs; wife, Winnie Downs; daughter, Patricia Downs Juneau; sister, Lillian Joyce Peltier; and granddaughter, Nicole Cooley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 10:00 am until the memorial services to begin at 12:00 pm at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales.
