Leola Johnson, affectionately known as "Mother" to her children and close loved ones, passed away at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary, with her family at her side. Visiting at Richardson Funeral Home, Clinton, on Friday, April 3, was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Religious service officiated by the Rev. Rodney Q. Freeman, pastor, will be held at Providence No. 2 Baptist Church, La. 19, Ethel, on Saturday at 11 a.m. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. She was born on Jan. 30, 1923, to the union of Dennis and Mary Carter Mack. She was a native of Ethel and married to the late Joe W. Johnson. Survived by her children, Ruby Smith, Theresa A. Johnson, Louis Dennis and wife Betty Johnson, all of Baton Rouge, Mertis M. Johnson, Issac Johnson, Mary Lee Lolis, and Ronald and wife Jessie Mae Johnson, all of Ethel; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a special and close niece, Mamie Robinson, of Ethel; nieces, Ola Mae Armstead, Betty McManus, Sondra A. Spann and Nola Mack, all of Baton Rouge, Helen Wilson, Joyce Matthews and Verna White, all of Ethel, Jeninne Johnson and husband Eddie, and Patricia Williams, all of Baton Rouge, Demeteria Johnson, of New Orleans, and Billie Johnson, of Ethel; nephews, Charles Armstead, of Baton Rouge, Limuel Mack and Ned McCray, both of Chicago; a very special friend who was like a sister to her, Dorothy Shropshire, of Ethel; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Johnson; children, Hazel L. Lang, Emmanuel Johnson and Tyrone Johnson; parents, Dennis and Mary Mack; a sister, Mary Emma Armstead; and a grandchild whom she reared, Kenneth B. Johnson.
