Dorothy Louise Rostron Welch, better known as "Dottie," went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:02 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011. She was a resident of Gonzales and daughter of the late Charles and Clarice Rostron. Survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Joe Ben Welch, chancellor of River Parishes Community College. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech, where she and Joe Ben met, and spent her life caring and ministering to others in her home, at her children's schools and in her church homes. She also was a director of adult literacy in the public library system and an unfailing supporter of Joe Ben's community efforts. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue on. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruthi Rostron Revis. We treasure the time we had to count Dottie as one of our great friends. She was among the most caring and giving people we have ever been blessed to be around. She had quite a talent for reaching out.

We will never forget her part in the Pals of Dahnell (POD!) group ministering to us & our family in a time of need. Thanks Joe Ben and daughters for sharing Dottie generously with those around her. We were all blessed.

Joe Ben wish we could be there with you during this time. We have so many fond memories of our lives together with your family when we were young adults. My lasting memory of Dottie was that she always seemed to bring out the very best in everyone she came in contact with. BOth of you were such encouragers for me at the Orange Branch of Lamar University. Please know we are praying for God's comfort for the entire family over the next few weeks.
