Seldom, if ever, in our lifetime do we have the opportunity to know people like Bud Mapes. My father introduced me to him when I was a young boy. I recall my dad telling me, what I came to repeatedly recognize as the years passed -- Bud Mapes was a very special man. He was indeed. He taught me a number of lessons along the way. I will forever be grateful for having known him. God bless your family at this time and always. Take care. Bob

To Joe and Sammy and your familes: The poet Thomas Campbell said, "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die." That's the gift that Bud left to all of us who knew, loved and respected him. We'll miss his smile and the personal contact we all enjoyed, but he'll still be in our hearts and in our minds. No one who knew him could ever forget him! I know I won't.

I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Mapes' Family. He was loved and helpful to all at the State Capitol. Whenever called upon, he would always sponsor and support the activities of the Women's Caucus. May His Peace be with you and may it comfort you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow. May God, who has chosen to call your loved one closer to Himself, embrace you with His comfort and sustain you by His grace.

Bud was the first lobbyist I met when I started working for Governor Foster 6 years ago. He was generous with his advice, and he was steadfastly loyal to his friends. I will dearly miss waving good morning to him every day at the breakfast table in the Capitol cafeteria.

Sammy and family,
We are so sorry to hear of your father's death. We're never ready to say good-bye. He sounds like a wonderful man, and we are the poorer for never having met him. We know he must've been wonderful because he has a son like you.
God comfort you in your sorrow.

I am so very sorry to hear of Bud's death. I had the good fortune of working with Bud when I worked with the Acadiana Delegation back in the early-mid eighties. He was a wonderful and knowledgeable man. He will certainly be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his children and grandchildren during this difficult time.

Bud was a wonderful friend to my father in law, Representative Elias "Bo" Ackal, until the end of my pops life. He was always there for Bo when he needed him and a great family friend as well. He always paid special attention to Little Beau when I visited Pop at the Capitol. He had a special love of life and friends. He will be missed very much by all.

Bud was such a great friend and neighbor. He blamed me for all his hard work with the many flowers in his yard, but delighted in their blooms. He loved life and his friend and family--who could ask for anything more. I especially loved his hugs and his great stories he would tell of his life's adventures. He will be greatly missed by all.

When we recently moved next door to Mr. Bud, we didn't know anyone in the neighborhood. He was the first to greet us and welcome us in, and was by far one of the nicest people we could ever meet. He would offer his help to just about anything.. It came as a shock to see him go, and he will be missed greatly. My condolences to the family.. he was a great man!

A friend, a mentor, he was truly the dean of the lobbyists at the State Capitol. I will miss my talks with him, his advice, his humor and his colorful socks! God now has a powerful lobbyist. Rest in peace my friend. Dennie Williams

Bud was one of a kind. Candid, effective, humorous, generous, and fun to be with. He was the man to have when one had needs in the Louisiana legislature. When I served as the State's Commissioner of Financial Institutions, his advice was helpful and thoughtful. I really liked him a lot. His loss is a loss to all of Louisiana.

Had the pleasure of working with Bud when I was with Eckerd back in the early eighties. Always impressed with his incredible memory. Although he didn't know me well, he always remembered by name.
Heartfelt sympathy to the family.
