Timothy Hood Obituary

Timothy Allen Hood, age 60, of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday, February 9. Tim was a loving husband, father, brother, and son. He was a treasured friend and mentor to all as well as an inspirational employer to everyone in the Chimes, Varsity and Parrain's families. Tim set the bar incredibly high as he dealt with cancer and resulting treatments that finally took him from us. His refusal to be overwhelmed by adversity, his unparalleled grace, courage and good humor were examples to us all. We will miss him terribly. He is survived by his wife Marianne Bruder Hood, daughter Kristin Hood Provencher and husband Matt, two sons, Tyler Wilson Hood and Timothy Matson Hood, parents, Wilson and Lynne Hood, four sisters, Rebecca Freedman and husband Allen, Melissa Ryan, Cynthia Reseigh and husband, J.R., Carrie Hood and husband Kerry Grombacher and numerous nieces and nephews. The Varsity will be open Thursday, February 12 from 3pm-7pm for visitation with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate

for Timothy Hood

Not sure what to say?

We are so sorry to hear about Tim's passing. My sister, Jennifer had a big crush on him when she was about 5 years old and he 15. She used to say she was going to marry him. I just remember him as a very sweet teenager who was nice to the younger kids. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. The Odems

Our lives are richer for having crossed paths with and befriended Tim Hood. He was kind and generous not only to me, but also our son Benjy Davis, a songwriter and musician, and the members of the Benjy Davis Project. Since first playing at the Varsity approximately 15 years ago and many times since, they have always loved playing at the Varsity. The Varsity was and has always been a wonderful venue for musicians and fans. Our family has wonderful memories of Tim and his generous spirit. I am sad for his family who I know will miss him immeasurably. Warmly, Amos H Davis

I have had the pleasure of knowing Tim for over 30 years. We saw each other often during my years at Murphys. I always looked up to him and often sought his advice. He was a man of great integrity and high morals. He was held in the highest regard by all that knew him I can only imagine what a great husband and father he was. My heart goes out to all left in the void of his death especially his wife and children

My fondest memories of college at LSU are of a group of construction students sitting at a table at the union drinking coffee and playing word games in the newspaper. There must have been six or seven of us who had all started with other majors and then switched to construction. I spent a lot of time with Tim and told him that I thought that he was the smartest one in the bunch. He would finish the statics or strength of materials test 15 minutes before everyone else.
Tim was one of the few people in that group that I managed to keep up with over the years and really enjoyed seeing him when I would go to the Chimes. I admired and respected him and am happy to have been included in his group of friends. I will miss him dearly.

My deepest sympathy to Marianne and family. I finally got to meet Tim Christmas eve and enjoy the time I was able to spend with him. All my prayers to everyone and know now that he is at piece. All my Love Octavia and family.

I've first met when he worked for Mike Anderson. His assignment in the late 1970s? Drive to Henderson to pick up crawfish at Amy's Fisheries (my grandfather's place).

Later, when I made it to Baton Rouge in 1986 and Paradise Records Records, Legendary Record Store in 1988, I found that Tim had helped to create the Chimes. The Chimes' was the place where many young restaurateurs got their training and young people got their first jobs.

Tim helped me personally and was always willing to work with Paradise Records on a promotion. He was a great Northgate business neighbor. I will miss him.

Marianne, I was deeply saddened to hear of Tim's passing. Although it has been more than 30 years since I worked with you and Tim at Mike Anderson's, I still remember Tim as one of my most positive bosses and earliest mentors in good management. Later, whenever I'd see Tim at the Chimes or Varsity, both his warm welcome and inspirational ethic never failed to leave an impression. My sincerest condolences to you, your family, and everyone he leaves behind at The Chimes, Varsity, and Parrain's.
