After a courageous 18-month battle with lung cancer, on September 9, 2015, we lost our loving wife, mother, and grandmother. A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Gwen was born on October 28, 1952, and would have been 63 years old this year. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church and worked for the State Police from which she was due to retire in October of this year. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph Allen (JoJo) Heath, a son Kyle Joseph Heath and wife Angel Mader Heath, a daughter Amanda Marie Heath, her treasured grandchildren Madison, Hayden and Ashton Heath, and her beloved fur baby, Rowdy. She is also survived by sister Gayle Waggenspack Kimmitt and husband Terry, brother Terry A. and wife Vickie, sister in law Sandra Heath, nephews Christopher, Jonathan, and Ryan Kimmitt, Andy Waggenspack, and a niece, Andria Waggenspack Monceaux. Gwen is also survived by her honorary family members Mike and Connie Leonard, their daughter Brandi Leonard Thompson and her daughters Taylor, Caitlin, and Haleigh Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin J. and Violet Wiltz Waggenspack and in-laws Joseph O. and Fannie Heath. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Visiting at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Trey Nelson.

I look at the "new" Mississippi bridge at night and see a light out in the lovely lights across the top of the bridge. My wonderful, funny cousin Gwen is a light out of my family bridge. Family get togethers will be hard without that light. We will miss her so much.

I never met Gwen but was informed of her passing by a good friend of mine, He told me of the help Gwen provided for a fundraiser when my son was injured 10 years ago, it takes a special person to give up their time to help others in need who they have never met or did not know. I know a special person such as this is now in a special place. My family will always be grateful. God bless. Tim Whalen

Mrs. Gwen was wonderful and perfectly laced,
Mrs. Gwen can never be replaced.

Her eyes were bright and full of joy, she was a person that everyone loved and did enjoy.

If she were here today, she would stand here and have these words to say...

"Do not cry for me anymore, I'm happier today, than ever before;
For I am at peace and external rest, and now your faith is being put to the test;
Do not fret and go through strife, but trust in the Lord Jesus, cause there is Everlasting Life.

Not only was she one of my best friends, she was a lady, I called, Mama Gwen!!!

Praying for the family during this time!
