A native of Wilmer and resident of Baton Rouge, Elaine Bennett Shar, passed away on September 14, 2016 at the age of 90. She graduated from Amite High School and later majored in Music at Southeastern Louisiana University. Her faith in the Lord and passion for gospel music was evident all through her life. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn & Don Parsons of Brownsfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald & Jackie Shar of Clinton; three grandchildren, Charles Parsons & wife Kim, Chris Shar & wife Elizabeth and Jennifer Magliolo & husband Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Melanie & Conner Parsons, Clint & Waylon Shar, Sarah Magiolo, and Mary-Danse Jarratt; a sister, Charlene Averett & husband Romie; and two brothers, Thomas Bennett & wife Virginia and Stanford Bennett & wife Mary. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Louis Shar Jr.; parents Charlie & Maggie Bennett; and sister, Alice Faye Lesage. The family thanks everyone at Ollie Steele Burden Manor whose staff has cared for Elaine ""Boo Boo"" with love, kindness and gentle touch the last 6 years. We especially thank the many nurses, aides and administrators who attended her in her last days and who helped make her passing peaceful for her and poignant but joyful for her family. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until the religious services at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Reverend Rick McAlister and Reverend Burnie Schmidt. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
