McGhee, Florence Reams "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." II Corinthians 5:8. A native of Batchelor and a resident of Baton Rouge, Florence Reams McGhee departed this earthly life unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at 10:50 a.m. She was a 66-year-old retired teacher from the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. McGhee was an active member for more than 40 years of Jordon United Methodist Church, where she served as a communion steward and lay leader. She was also an avid gardener and collector, a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church Singles Ministry and a member of Zion City CDC. Visitation at Jordan United Methodist Church, 4619 Stearns St., on Friday, Aug. 11, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with family visitation at 7 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 8 a.m., followed by the homegoing celebration beginning at 11 a.m. Interment in Hope Cemetery on Plank Road. Repass will be held at Delmont Service Center, 3535 Riley St. Florence McGhee was born Aug. 12, 1939, to the late Harris and Peacola Dailey Reams. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Troy Jerome McGhee and spouse Kim of Atlanta, and Kevin Llewellyn McGhee and spouse Michelle of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Nicole Aileen McGhee Hall and spouse Kelvin of Atlanta; three sisters, Mary Jones and spouse Willie of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Betty Battley of New Roads, and Marilyn Milton and spouse John of Sugar Land, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Mae Jacobs of Baton Rouge and Velma Mae Anderson of Port Allen; brother-in-law, Charles L. McGhee and spouse Vivian of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Alyssa Brionna McGhee, Donovan West McGhee, Christian Xavier McGhee and Kelvin Nathaniel Hall; six nephews, five nieces, six grandnephews, four grandnieces, a devoted friend, Melvin Turner; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Peacola Reams; brother, Harris Joseph Reams; half sister, Elizabeth R. Dailey; niece, Jean Carter; grandniece, Paige Victorian; and ex-husband, Troy McGhee. McGhee was a graduate of the New Roads High School Class of 1956. She was also an active member of the Southern University Alumni Federation. Desselle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
