It is with mixed emotions that the family of Myrtle Franklin Hamilton announce her passing from earth to glory on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the age of 89. She was the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed. She was born to the union of the late Mary Ida Platt Franklin and Seamon Franklin in Lettsworth, Louisiana back in 1931. She was raised by the late Charlcena S. Platt and the late Bracy L. Platt (Bud). She committed her life to Christ and was baptized by the late Rev. Albert Franklin at Scott's Chapel Methodist Church in Lettsworth, Louisiana in 1948. She married Leo Hamilton on May 8, 1949 and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a healthcare worker and a mother of six children. She later joined Neely United Methodist Church pastored by Rev. Zilton in 1950. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Neely United Methodist Church Breakfast Club, and the United Methodist Women. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Seamon and Mary Ida Platt Franklin, her aunt and uncle, Charlcena and Bracy Platt, her brother Charles Franklin, her sisters and brother-in-law, Bessie and O'Neil Woods, Bertha Reed, Katherine Gilbert, and daughter-in-law Annie Hamilton. Myrtle leaves behind to mourn her death, her cherished survivors: her husband, Leo Hamilton of 71 years of holy matrimony, Baton Rouge, LA; her sister Vera Franklin Adams of Dallas, Texas; six children, Larry Hamilton, Baton Rouge, LA; Leo Hamilton (Gwendolyn), Baton Rouge, LA; Gregory Hamilton (Paulette), Baton Rouge, LA; Glenda Hamilton Williams, Baton Rouge, LA; Sheila Hamilton, Baton Rouge, LA; Sandra Hamilton Smith (Tyrone), Baton Rouge LA. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, relatives, and friends. Services will be held at Neely U.M.C., 1755 Thomas H. Delpit Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70802 on Friday, December 18, 2020. The viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the start of the funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with the burial immediately following at the Port Hudson National Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, social distancing requirements will be in place. There will be no repast.

Sister Hamilton was a great figure in the church. My Mother was very fund of her. I remember her also being a peacemaker and very proud of her family.
