Dr. Raphael A. Baranco Sr.
Lafayette - Dr. Raphael A. Baranco, Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette, with viewing and visitation from 8:00AM to 9:00AM; Rosary at 9:00AM, followed by presentations.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00AM. Dr. Baranco practiced dentistry in Lafayette for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 504. He served on the Lafayette Parish School Board for 18 years and remained actively involved in work and organizations that focused on education, community, health, and equality throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Terry, his children Angela Baranco-Mason, Rachel Baranco Strawn (Larry) and Raphael, Jr.; grandchildren: Paul, Joseph, Raphael, III, Elise, and Gabrielle; brother Gregory Baranco (Juanita); sisters: Bette Bland (Richard), and Patricia; sister-in-law Marty L. Bryant and brother-in-law Virgil Hardin in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, colleagues, fraternity brothers and the Lafayette community.
Kinchen Funeral Home Inc., 1011 North Saint Antoine Street, Lafayette LA 70501, will oversee the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dr. Baranco's name to his alma maters, Xavier University of Louisiana or Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.
