Barbara Richard Humphrey, 89, was born on October 7th, 1932 in Chenal, Louisiana. She passed away Tuesday, November 9th, 2021. She was the second of four children and the only girl born to the late Ida and Howard Ricard, Sr. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Southern University, while also pledging Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She then attended Louisiana State University and was one of the first Black person to graduate and earn a master's degree. On January 29th, 1955, she was joined in holy matrimony to William Humphrey, Jr. She enjoyed a short but memorable career as a school teacher then ultimately decided to dedicate her time to rearing her two children, Paris and Troy. Her dedication to family continued when she was blessed with the opportunity to raise her grandchildren, Bianca and Paris, Jr. As a young mother, Barbara was diagnosed with breast cancer, through which she survived. Always a fighter, she would later participate in the Race for the Cure's annual fundraisers with her beloved nieces, Kim and Jackie. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, watching NBA basketball, and the company of family and friends. She loved her morning coffee, a daily routine of maintaining a clean house, as well as having a cold coke with fried chicken when all of her work was done. As technology blossomed, she learned to navigate emails and Netflix independently. She was a devoted wife, mother and a faithful Christian. Survivors include her sons, Paris Sr. and Troy; grandchildren, Bianca, Paris Jr., and Tyler; and her brother Cecil. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Howard Sr., her husband, William Humphrey, Jr. Visitation Monday, November 22, 2021 9:30 am until religious service at 11:00 am, Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA.
