Bertha Lucille Desormes Boyd was born on Aug. 30, 1928, in New Roads, to the union of Oliver Desormes Sr. and Laura Saizon Desormes. BeeBee, as she was affectionately called, was the oldest of seven children. She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Augustine Catholic Church. She received most of her education in the schools of Pointe Coupee Parish, but later graduated from McKinley High School. She was a retired accountant and bookkeeper for Murphy's Department Store, a long-standing member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, and volunteer for the parish food pantry program and Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. BeeBee was a devoted and loving wife, mother and aunt. She was married for 58 years to her childhood sweetheart, George Lester Boyd, of New Roads. From that union two sons were born. On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 1 p.m., God in his infinite mercy and wisdom sent angels to bring her home to her eternal reward. She is survived by her husband, George Lester Boyd; and nephew and caregiver, Joshua Givens. Among those left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Annette Rodney and spouse Douglas, and Yvonne Gremillion, all of New Roads; brother, Alcide Desormes, New Roads; a loyal and devoted daughter-in-law, Edna Tea Bell Boyd; an awesome group of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends who adored and loved her as much as she did them. Preceded in death by her parents; sons, George Francis and Gregory Michael Boyd; sister, Thelma Boyd; brothers, Oliver Desormes Jr. and Wilfred Desormes; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2250 Main St., on Thursday, June 12, at 10 a.m. Interment at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd.
