On Sunday, January 2, 2022, Betty Hardy Smith, 86, joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born to Henry Hardy and Mabel Forrest Hardy on March 29, 1935, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was the third of seven children. Betty received her baptism and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She graduated from McKinley Senior High School and Southern University A&M College, where she received a Bachelors' Degree in Elementary Education. In June of 1958, she married Philip L. Smith, Sr. She retired after 30 years as an Educator. Betty loved to spend time with her children, siblings, extended family and friends. Betty was many things to many people. Family members and friends would describe her as an adventurer and confidant with a fun-loving personality. She immensely enjoyed gardening, listening to music, dancing, traveling, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Survived by her daughters, Ruby Lewis (Lee, Jr.) Dixon of Zachary, LA, Dr. Melanie Smith-Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA, and her son Philip (Brandi) L. Smith, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Michael) James of Zachary, LA, Lee "Tre" Dixon, III of Baton Rouge, LA, Brittany Nicole Dixon of Zachary, LA, Harith (J'Neal) Jordan Razaa, Esq. of Washington D.C., Sheldon "DJ" Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA, Lauren Maria Smith of Baton Rouge, LA, Blair Simone Smith of Baton Rouge, LA, Philip L. Smith, III, of Washington D.C., Olivia Grace Smith of Baton Rouge, LA, and her brother, Charles (Mary) Tolliver of Baton Rouge, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law; two sisters; three brothers and other relatives and friends. Her life was decorated with beautiful memories and times spent with the people she loved. Even in her final moments, she showed phenomenal strength and love for family. Betty's memory and spirit will be cherished by us all.
