Buanita Gibson Butler passed away at home on October 30, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Buanita was born September 7, 1941. Funeral services Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10 am at New St. John B.C., 1455 South Blvd., B.R., La. She is survived by her son, Willard Jason Butler of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Willette Jia Butler of Baton Rouge, LA; and Willita Jamel Butler of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, James Leonard Butler (Jasmine) of Baton Rouge, LA; Taylor Jaie Butler of St. Louis, Missouri; Kolby Alexis Joseph of Baton Rouge, LA; Zaria Jacia Butler of Dallas, Texas; and Jalen Matthew Reed Butler of Baton Rouge, LA; a great-grandson, Raiden Cade Faries of St. Louis, Missouri, and a great-granddaughter, Jersey Love Butler, a sister, Joann Gibson Bailey (Arthur Leon) of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sherry Corbin Gibson of Baton Rouge, LA. and a goddaughter, Tracy Ross Queen of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Davis Gibson and Georgia Reed Gibson, a granddaughter, Ivana Joy Butler, and a brother, Ronald Keith Gibson. The family wishes to appreciate so many who aided Buanita during her illness- Isiah "Blue" Jones, Laura Boyce Rodrigue, Emalie Boyce Self, Katherine Boyce, Sally Boyce Rinehart, Yvonne Asberry, and Linda Williams. The family also wishes to thank all medical professionals including Dr. Christine Parseghen, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Jeanette Kovtun, Ochsner Medical Center, the nursing staff at the Ochsner Medical Center Infusion Clinics (The Grove and O'Neal Lane locations), and the entire staff at New Century Hospice. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery.
