Charles William Delony passed away on Thursday, October 7 at the age of 88. He was the long time manager of Dominique's Stockyard in Baton Rouge, and was a charter member of the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association. He was widely recognized as one of the leaders in the state's livestock industry. He could see a large herd of cattle in the pasture, estimate their collective weight within 100 pounds, and estimate how much they would bring at auction within a few dollars – all this without having to write anything down. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he loved his Tuesday morning coffee and biscuits. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gloria; son Willis and wife Patricia; grandchildren Craig Delony and wife Kelly, Mary Claire Delony and husband Joel, and Ben Delony; great-grandchildren Parker, Luna, Rose and Ruby; sister Betty Roberson; and many good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Willis and Neva Delony: siblings Herman F. Delony, Jimmy Delony, and Nelda Delony; and his older son Dennis. Special thanks go to the staff of the Butterfly Wing at Hospice of Baton Rouge. A private memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church.
