Charles "C.J." John Mackey was born November 5, 1933. He was the son of Manuel John Mackey and Leesther Curtis. At the age of 88, Charles Mackey departed this life surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Charles "C.J." Mackey joined the United States Army in 1952 and later graduated from Mckinley Senior High School in 1956. In 1985, Charles Mackey graduated from Delgaldo Community College with a degree in Funeral Directing and completed his internship at Dorothy Lawless Mortuary in New Orleans, Louisiana. Charles "C.J." Mackey had a long and lustrous career throughout his life and in 1987 the doors to Armstrong and Mackey Funeral Home opened and would become Carney and Mackey Funeral Home which is currently being operated as Charles Mackey Funeral Home. Charles Mackey was the Sole Owner, President, and Funeral Director to Charles Mackey Funeral Home until his health declined in 2019. He leaves to cherish his memories a host of family, friends, loved ones and the community he served. A public visitation will be held Monday November 29, 2021 at Charles Mackey Funeral Home, 1576 Robin St. from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 9700 Scenic Highway. Visitation for Tuesday will begin at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with religious services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Religious services for Tuesday will also be available live stream through Facebook. Interment: Louisiana National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Charles Mackey Funeral Home.
