Donald Francis Steil, 91, a resident of Baker, LA, died on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was retired, after working for Taylor Products in Elkhart, IN for over 27 years. There will be a visitation at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 10 am until funeral services at 12 Noon, conducted by Rev. Eddie Davis. Burial will be at Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters: Jean Steele and her husband Samuel Steele of Baker, LA; Mary Tucker of Kokomo, IN; one son, Ricky D. Steil of Baton Rouge; one sister, Carol Janssen of Charles City, IA; six grandchildren: Joshua Nolan, Jennifer Avants, Sarah Foret, Samantha Waggenspack, Preston Tucker, Gene Troy Tucker; nineteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Frederick and Ann Steil; his wife Ruth L. Steil; his brother Alan Steil; sister Joann Hamann; son-in-law Darrell Tucker; two granddaughters Jessica Webb and Ashley Steil. He was in the Army. He believed in recycling and was often seen on his bike, retrieving cans. He was a member of various groups in his early years: the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW in Indiana, and the American Legion.
