Elijah Polk White "Whitey"; a native of West Feliciana Parish, and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, transition on Monday October 4, 2021 in Kenner, Louisiana. He was 83 years of age. He was the Biological Son of Margie Polk Wilson and the adopted son of Lucinda and Willie Sweezer of Jackson/St. Francisville, LA. He is survived by an uncle Henry L. Polk, Kenner, LA; Aunts: Bessie P. Spears of San Francisco, CA, Cornelia Prejean, Pearl Lewis, Suanne P. Taylor, & Carolyn P. Haley of New Orleans, Isabelle Polk Gilmore-Collins, and Betty Polk Raven of St. Francisville, LA. A special cousin Toi M. Williams of New Orleans. He has a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews, & special cousin Joseph Johnson of Hammond, LA who will cherish his memory. He worked at the Iconic Gene's Po-Boy, the Pink Building at the corner of St. Claude Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue for many years. The family took great pride in visiting Gene's Po-Boy, just to have Cousin Elijah "Whitey" prepare them a Po-Boy. He was very fond of the Theriot's and considered them as his family, especially "Lil-Gene". He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was proceeded in death by his parents Marjorie Polk Wilson & Manzo Wilson, Lucinda and Willie Sweezer, grandparents Patsy Woods Polk, Louis and Pearl Polk and two special cousins Huey Johnson, and George King. A memorial service will be held at the Old Polk School, 9780 Jones Vaughn Creek Road, St. Francisville, LA, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. Dismissal of The Remains will follow at the Pleasant Green Cemetery in St. Francisville, LA.
