Gerard "Jerry" Joseph Derbes Jr. a resident of Ventress, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by his children at the age of 84. Jerry was born on December 7, 1937 in Lakeland, La. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Rose Mary David Derbes, his son, Baby Derbes, his father, Gerard J Derbes, Sr., his mother, Gertrude Aucoin Derbes, his sisters, Gertrude "Trudy" Derbes Purpera, Kathleen "Kathy/Mama Kat" Derbes Vosburg, and Jeannette "PeeWee" Derbes Robillard, his nephew, Dean Allen Vosburg, his great niece, Ashley Nicole Purpera, his son-in-law Kevin Todd Dupuy, and numerous sister and brothers in law. He is survived by her his daughter, Patricia "Patty" Derbes Dupuy, son Doyle "Ray" Derbes Sr and spouse Karen, son Gerard "Little Jerry/Breeze" Derbes III and fiance Sonjua Travasos, daughter Rosemary "DeeDee" Derbes Hayden and spouse Tom, and daughter Jessica Derbes Morris and fiance Cory LeJeune, and 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Genevieve "Jenny" Donovan, Ronald "Ronnie" Derbes (Dena), Geraldine "Deanie" Perkins, Virginia "Tudi" McFarland (Teach), Judith "Judy" Holston, Josclyn "Winky" Deville (Lynn), Donald "Hair Bear" Derbes, Mary Aymond, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry graduated from Poydras High School in New Roads in 1956. He retired from Dow Chemical after 30 years of service. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Roads, LA. Jerry's biggest enjoyment was being outdoors, growing his own garden, cooking for his family, and visiting with his friends. His side kick, his grandson, Ryan Derbes, always kept him laughing. His family will forever be indebted to Eric, Daddy's hero, and Trudy Champagne for the love and kindness they showed to Jerry. Thank you to the staff at Pointe Coupee General Hospital for the wonderful care you provided to Daddy. Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, La on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 9:00-11:00am with a funeral mass at 11:00 am. Graveside service will follow at Chenal Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Doyle "Ray" Derbes Sr. Gerard "Little Jerry" Derbes III, Doyle Ray Derbes Jr, Ryan Derbes, Brian Purpera, Dennis Purpera, Arlene Pupera, and William "Scott" Perkins. Honorary Pallbearers are, Eric Champagne, Hayes Morris, Hayden Derbes, Ronald "Ronnie" Derbes, and Donald "Hair Bear" Derbes Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made in Gerard's memory sent to Pointe Coupee General Home Health and Hospice.

R.I.P. Worked for Jerry at the Dow Chemical Co. Last time I saw Jerry was at Old River, after we were retired.
