Isaac Eugene Appleton, DDS, MS, Retired Colonel, US Army Dental Corps, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his residence in Zachary, LA. Isaac is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Eugene and Irma Wall Appleton. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Florio LeRouge Appleton. Isaac is lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses: Chip Merlin Appleton and Sara Scott; Glenn Eugene Appleton DDS, and Beth Thieler Appleton; Richard Scott Appleton, DDS, MS, and his wife Patience Appleton. Grandchildren include Brandon Appleton, Austin Appleton, Ryan Appleton, Regan Appleton, Jack Appleton, and Kate Appleton. He is also survived by four sisters: Ruth Appleton Degrado and husband Joe Degrado; Mary Ludie Appleton Baker; Marguerite Appleton Ritchey; and Betty Lu Mclellan and husband Rudy Mclellan. Isaac was born in Port Arthur, TX, to Glenn Eugene Appleton and Irma Wall Appleton on May 20, 1938. He graduated from Zachary High School in 1956 and Southeastern University in 1958. He earned a doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans Cum Laude in 1962, completed his residency in Prosthodontics at the University of Missouri in 1972 with a Masters Degree in Science. He served in the United States Army Dental Corp for 20 years, retiring as a Colonel. He then joined Dr. Michael J. Maginnis in private practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1982, retiring in 2017. He was involved in woodworking, stained glass, and the Power Squadron. He loved boating (especially with a steam engine) and living on the river. He was a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu Society, Jesuit Scholastic Society, American Dental Association, American College of Dentists, American College of Prosthodontists, and the International College of Prosthodontists. There will be a visitation on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary from 9:00 am until funeral services at 10:00 am, conducted by Fr. Brad Doyle. Burial will follow in Shaw McHugh Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his family. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. What fond memories I have of my longtime dentist, Dr. Isaac. I will miss him but rejoice in his major legacy: professional children. May this visage of the universal symbol for metamorphosis/resurrection bring a momentary respite to the Appleton family.
