Iván R. Menéndez-Latimer of Terrytown, LA, 50, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Kingwood Medical Center in Houston, TX following a month-long fight and battle with COVID-19. He leaves behind his mother Margarita M. Latimer and his older brother Diego L. Menendez with his wife Lourdes and their two sons, his nephews, Alexander and Andres he adored along with his two precious dogs Gizmo and Benji. He also leaves behind many close friends and family spread-out between NOLA, South Florida, and Puerto Rico. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of Diego L. Menendez Iglesias and Margarita M. Latimer, he was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. In his early years he grew up in Puerto Rico but he and his family relocated to New Orleans, LA in the late 1970's where he spent the majority of his life. He attended grammar school at Christ the King Elementary and graduated middle school from there. He went on to Archbishop Shaw High School where he attended for two years before finishing his last two years of high school and graduating from West Jefferson in 1990. Upon graduation from high school, he went on to work for Southwest Airlines for a decade as part of their ground crew operations in Houston, St. Louis, and New Orleans. He also attended three years of college, part-time, at LSU and UNO. He did not complete his degree but he was very close to doing so. After deciding to leave employment with Southwest Airlines, he pursued his entrepreneurial spirit and became a small business owner for 12 years with a small restaurant he managed and owned in North Miami Beach, FL called Rocky's Hamburgers and Cheesesteaks. He was a tremendous cook and he loved that business but he ultimately had to shut it down. He then went on to manage two restaurants, one in Miami and one in New Orleans, after he relocated back to NOLA. He later decided to reinvent himself, yet again, and embarked on a new career path keeping his entrepreneurial spirit alive. He spent the last 7 years of his life as a highly respected professional in the Insurance Industry as an Independent Insurance Claims Adjuster licensed in the majority of the US doing work for many different Insurance Companies based out of Texas and GA that required him to make frequent trips out to Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta. Ivan had many passions that included his family, friends, dogs, music; especially heavy metal rock from his favorite band Iron Maiden, travel, poetry, cooking, reading, shooting his guns at the firing range, and flying given he had his private pilot's license to name just a few. A funeral mass service is scheduled at Christ the King Church in Terrytown, LA on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 1pm CST. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local New Orleans SPCA, in his honor, where he rescued his two dogs from years ago. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Kingwood Medical Center in Houston, TX for their valiant and exceptional care of Ivan and all COVID patients they fight for during this difficult time in all our lives.
