James Richard Dearden, 64 of Jefferson, La. wanted all to know that God was looking for a great handyman, (and who the heck, isn't?), so on Sept. 30, 2021 he accepted his new position as "Heaven's Handyman." God broke the mold the day he was born in Hanover NH on Oct. 15, 1956. His loving parents, Richard and Beth Dearden (Jefferson, La) can tell you many stories of his illustrious life! Being the eldest of 3 siblings Chris (SC), Ken (NH), and " little sister" Ellen (LA), was a challenging task, but he was up for it! He led them through a childhood of adventures, pranks, education, love and laughter! He was so proud and loved his nephew Chris, and nieces Krystal, and Sarah for the strong independent thinkers that they have become. The best day of his life was when his beautiful daughter, Jennifer (Niffer) Foust (Jay), was born. He took the role of father very seriously, and in her words," he was the most amazing man, and best dad in the whole world." They have a special bond and he raised her to be a kind, loving, self sufficient, adventurous, and educated woman, who inherited her dad's wonderful traits and spirit. Ten years ago, Jim became a grandfather, blessed by his sweet Addie, who lovingly called him Grandpa Bucket. How he loved her and hearing of all of her farm adventures. In 2005, he headed to New Orleans in his bucket truck with his dog, Cheyenne, riding shotgun, to come help with post Katrina clean up. He planned on staying 3 weeks, but fell in love with this city and it's people, and never left! His keen sense of humor and quick wit always kept one on their toes. He was blessed (or cursed) with a genius IQ, and unlimited talents. He was an avid (speed) reader, artist, painter, mechanic, played guitar, had a great singing voice, amazing cook, and of course the best handyman. He could fix anything! Mostly he was known for being a kind hearted man always making time for his friends, family and clients, who loved him deeply. We wish to thank Heart of Hospice, his nurses, Elizabeth, Philip, and Chaplain, Dwayne for their exceptional care and support. Also so many thanks to his amazing friends who are organizing. A Celebration of Life that will be held on Sat. Oct 16, 2021 at Brewsky's Bar and Grill, 2205 David Dr. Metairie, LA. 1-6 pm.
