Lazarus James McDaniel, the 9th of 12 children, was born March 8, 1944 in Lyerly, Georgia. He passed away on September 28, 2020. Lazarus began his career in Charlotte, NC, as a chemist at Celanese Corporation. In 1974 he accepted a position as a chemist at Kaiser Aluminum in Baton Rouge where he worked for 10 years. Lazarus' entrepreneurial spirit led him to begin his own company, L&L Industries (aka McDaniel Industries) in 1985. For more than 20 years, McDaniel Industries served as a vendor of janitorial and hospital supplies throughout Louisiana. Lazarus expanded the business to include mold abatement, changing its name to CHC Industries in 2000. One of his proudest accomplishments was the purchase in 1995 of a school originally built to foster segregation in Ascension Parish, LA and utilize it for the betterment of the lives of all people in the community, where he and his wife lived until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 49 years, Larain, daughters Hope (Richard) Desarmes, Claire (Olisa) Ojeh, a son, Colin (Tamara) McDaniel and 6 grandchildren. Lazarus' Graveside services will be held at the McDaniel Family Farm in Lyerly, Georgia, on October 11, 2020. Willis Funeral Home of Dalton, GA presiding. The family appreciates your signing the Digital GuestBook.

Laz, as we called him, and I worked together at Kaiser for many years. I loved Laz like a brother. Always with a smile and always looking for a friend to help! Laz was a real Christian. I remember he had a small dark convertible car with a bumper sticker that said, “Things Go Better With Christ”! At the time Coca-Cola had one similar.
I was telling a co-worker yesterday about Laz and how he was always ready to get in an ugly situation to help someone....Black or White! I also remember he bought some run-down condos called Brandywine, trying to help the poor. Lots of money went from his pockets to help them.
Goodbye Laz. We will see you on the “other side”!
Love you brother,

Mr McDaniel was an amazing man. My childhood is filled with memories of his support, guidance and inspiration. He was there with encouraging words and he motivated me to reach for the sky. He and his family opened their home to me, which had such a profound impact on my life. I will forever be thankful and blessed to have known him. My deepest condolences to the McDaniel family at the loss of such an amazing soul. This journey ends and a new one begins in heaven. Prayers for you all as you process this loss. May his wonderful spirit continue to guide and comfort you.

We are very saddened by the passing of our wonderful neighbor, Lazarus. We have always admired his gentle demeanor, honesty and intelligence. He was such a hard worker. If the world could only have more people like him we would not be experiencing the strife of today. Larain, we are here for you!! You need only to ask. God bless ALL of you and help you with your grief now and in the future.

I met the McDaniel's through my wife. I felt an instant connection to the family and especially to Lazarus. He and I would talk for hours. We often spoke of God and my. He would often speak fondly of Larain saying things like I better get this done for Larain or even the kids. I was blessed to have known him. His kindness and since of accomplishment in all faceit of his life just sometimes made you check yourself.
His presence here on Earth will be missed.

To Larain, I can’t believe how long I’ve been knowing you and Lazarus. I have known you two over half my life. Long enough to remember when you had your first born Hope. I remember when Lazarus and Fred became I believe the first black chemist at Kaiser aluminum. You all soon join Neely UM church where we really bonded as families. Lazarus would bring you all to the house after church for dinner. We would fry fish with all the fixings and just have a good old time together. You all thought enough of mom to let her be Hope’s godmother. Momma would often talk about the road trip you all took to Lazarus hometown. She said it was like going back in time meeting some his family. There was an incident with the car that I can’t quite remember but all I know it was funny. Lazarus was a very smart man and very proud of Hope, Collins, Claire and their families. He loved you Larain for 49 years that’s a long time. I know he will be missed but God will see you through this trying time. Much love to all of you Lynn, Jennifer and Jessica ❤❤❤
