Betty Alice Kennedy Watts Locke, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. She was born in Baton Rouge, LA on October 17, 1938 to the late John Benton Kennedy and Verdie Mae (Bulloch) Kennedy, and resided in the Baton Rouge area all her life where she graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1956, married, and began a new job with the State of Louisiana, all within the same week. During her 35-year tenure with the State, she worked for the Departments of Welfare, Education, Legal and Transportation as secretary to department heads, retiring in 1990. She was known to be highly-skilled, diligent, personable, diplomatic and well-liked by her colleagues. She loved her family very much and they loved her and will forever hold dear many fond memories of her. Her generous nature was exhibited through her innumerable acts of kindness and compassion to all who met her. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Joe A. Locke. She is survived by her three children whose father was Ward L. Watts (deceased): Kenneth "Bunker" Watts (Susan), Ginger Watts and Lynda ("Lu-Lu") Thibodeaux; grandchildren: Attorney Lindsay Watts Sanchez (Blain), Neal Watts (Dr. Amanda Watts), Amanda Watts Harris (Dr. Joe Harris), Tori Thibodeaux Bogan (J.D.), and Madison Thibodeaux; great-grandchildren: Aubri, Adleigh and Aidyn Watts, and Amelia and Kathryn Bogan. She is also survived by her sisters: Anne K. Tyler and Lee K. (Ruby) McElveen (Bob), and preceded in death by her sister, Patsy S. Kennedy. Survivors also include Attorney John L. Tyler, nephew, and nieces Jill A. Tyler and Dr. Cathy McElveen (Alan); Great-Nephews: Chad and Corey Tyler, and Tyler Camel; Great Nieces: Corinne, Catherine and Dahlia Del Castillo. She also leaves behind her stepchildren: Lecia Mouille (Jimmie, deceased), Terry Locke ( Lynn, deceased), preceded in death by Diane Watts; step-grandchildren: James, Chris Mouille and Allen Locke. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Blackwater United Methodist Church. Visitation beginning at 10:00 am with the service beginning at 11:00 am. The Reverend Pattye Hewitt officiating. A private burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Oakwood Village in Zachary, LA, especially to Mrs. Christy Turner and those on the Special Care Unit for their attentiveness and loving care; also our gratitude for special and gifted nurses: Nikki Arnold and Celeste Buhler. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Blackwater United Methodist Church.
