Marcus Bruner Obituary

Marcus Delano Bruner was born April 7, 1923 in Randolph County, Georgia and died November 3, 2012 in Baton Rouge. Son of George Washington Bruner and Cora Lee McKinnon, he graduated valedictorian from Edison High School. He later attended Georgia Teacher's College and Louisiana State University. He married Loraine Carr November 1, 1942 in Gainsville, Florida, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mark served in World War II in the Air Transport Command of the Army Air Corp in Natal, Brazil. He returned to Baton Rouge after the war and was employed by General Gas Corp. After moving to Texas, he worked for TexGas in Houston, Suburban Gas in Liberty and owned B & J Butane in Waco, Texas. Moving back to Baton Rouge in 1967, he worked for Wilson Distributors as Director of Personnel. From 1984 until July of 2012 he worked as a self-employed accountant in Baton Rouge. Mark was a Deacon of the Southern Baptist Church and also served as a church musician for 76 years. Preceding him in death are his parents, his sister Esther Bruner, his brother Edward Bruner and his daughter Marsha Bruner Hawkins. Surviving him are his wife Loraine Bruner, his sister Margaret Stokes of Blakely, Georgia; daughter DeLane Bruner Dooley of New Jersey, nephews Chester Stokes, Jr. of Florida and James Smiley of Mississippi, niece Jan Brofman, sister-in-law Merle Cooper, grandsons Tristan Dooley of New Jersey, Kyle Hawkins of Texas and Ryan Hawkins of Texas; granddaughter Erin Dooley of New Orleans, step-granddaughter Abigail Harris of Texas, great-grandson Daylan Hawkins and great-granddaughter Dara Hawkins of Texas. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East Wednesday from 1:00pm until the religious service in the chapel at 4:00pm conducted by Rev. Dr. Terry Ellis. Burial will be in Crystal Springs, Mississippi City Cemetery at 1:00pm Thursday. A guest registry is available at www.rabenhorst.com

Mrs. Bruner,

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Bruner was a very kind man, and had a great sense of humor. Listening to his stories about his days in the military were always more enjoyable than any history class I sat in. Heaven has a new angel.
