Margie (Chevalier) Mattei, 81, a resident of Livingston, LA returned to her heavenly home on January 4, 2022. Margie was born in Gilmer, TX to Olen Bernard Chevalier, Sr. and Eunice Chevalier on October 12, 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, Olen (Petey) Chevalier and Phillip (Robin) Chevalier, as well as her daughter, Stephanie Mattei and grandson, Todd Mattei. Margie was married to her high school sweetheart, Peter Ben Mattei, for 63 years. She is survived by her husband, daughter, Cindy (Don) Hingle and son, Michael (Grace) Mattei, in addition to her grandchildren, Joshua Hingle, Meagan Casey, Gregory Mattei, Mark Mattei, Lindsay Schenk, Thomas Mattei and Garrett Mattei and 8 great-grandchildren. Margie grew up and then spent most of her adult years as a resident of Port Sulphur (Homeplace), LA. She always considered the small town to be her home. She was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was very strong. She was devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren. She cherished being a grandma. Her devotion to her many pets and gardening was also well known. Margie will be sorely missed, but her family and friends will be forever grateful for her influence, generosity and love. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Jupiter St., Harvey, LA at 11 AM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online at

Mrs Margie, you were such a wonderful friend to so many. My mom and dad loved you so much! My prayers are with you all. Mr Peter, Cindy and Michael and above all, your grandchildren and great grandchildren will always have beautiful memories of the loving and happy person you always were! I know for myself and so many others, the memories we shared with you while growing up will forever be cherished.

Mrs. Margie was such a great neighbor. Fell in love with her the first time we met. She came here and brought me a flower and introduced herself. We had quite a few visits at the fence between our houses. She will be missed.
