A resident of Kentwood, he departed this life Saturday October 13, 2012 at his residence. He was the pastor of Oak Grove AME Church, Kentwood. Wake service at Turner Chapel AME Church, 874 Turner Chapel Rd., Greensburg from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday October 21, 2012. Religious service at Grace Christian Workship Center, 1006 7th. St., Glenmora, LA. at 1 p.m. Monday. Conducted by Presiding Elder Lloyd Washington. Interment in Glenmora Community Cemetery, Glenmora. Pastor Roland Baker, Sr. was born to the late Eddie Elmore and Elouise Anthanase Baker on October 3rd 1959 in Glenmora, La. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at First Union Baptist Church. Roland married Noreen "Tammy" Freeda Taylor on July 29th 1989 and they were blessed with six children. Roland was preceded in death by two brothers: Jessie and McKinley Baker. Pastor Baker leaves in God's loving care his wife of 23 years, Noreen "Tammy" Baker of Kentwood, La. His six children, Angela (Charles) of Crestview, FL; Titus of Kentwood, La; Kayla of San Antonio, TX; Roland O. Baker Jr., Cathy and Christine of Kentwood, La. Two sisters Mary (Arnold) Simon of Rosenburg, TX; Sandra (Vonell) of Wake Forest, N.C. and Linda "Gail" Sumbler who was like a sister. Seven brothers, Eric (Janice) and John (Linda) of Glenmora, La; Dedrick (Latasha) and Rynnie (Sonya) Baker of Houston, TX; Edmond (Rebecca) of Bay City, TX; Eddie (Joyce) of Clute, TX and C.L. (Jean) of San Antonio, TX. Two Aunts, Bessie Gaines of Glenmora, La. and Selena Anderson of Glenmora, La. Three Uncles, Willie Baker of Slidell, La; Lawrence Kelly of Glenmora, La. and James Cameron of Fort Worth, TX. Nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who will miss him but will find comfort in knowing that he is at rest and will see him again in the great resurrection. Rev. Baker will be especially missed at the LA Annual Conference this week. He always video the conf and you get a copy of the ones you missed of whicn I was unable to attend this year. Rev. Baker will be missed from many functions. I pray God's blessings on his family.

I had the pleasure of getting to know this wonderful man of God. He pastored Bethel A.M.E. Church in DeQuincy, La. for several years. He was like a member of our family and we all loved him. He will be greatly missed. He was faithful to God unto death and has received his crown of life in heaven.
