Vickie Jo Claflin
1951 - 2021
Vickie Jo Claflin, born in Alexandria, LA on November 21, 1951, passed away Thursday September 2, 2021 at the age of 69. She is survived by her devoted husband John Giamalva, and brother Mark Claflin. Vickie graduated from Riverdale High School in Jefferson, LA and continued her educational journey with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from LSU, as well as a Doctorate of Education at University of Arkansas. Sharing her love of learning, she taught at all levels of education, from elementary school to graduate students. She served on the faculties of LSU, University of Arkansas, University of Maryland, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Capella University. She retired in 2020 to devote more time to her other interests, including family, volunteering, and traveling. Her second passion was supporting Westie Rescue of Maryland. She spent countless hours rescuing West Highland Terriers from unfortunate situations, and finding them forever homes in loving families. She also loved US and international travel. She spent one year teaching at University of Nottingham, UK, and many European trips with John. She and John loved hosting family, friends, and international visitors at their homes in Arkansas, Maryland, and Louisiana. She will be very much missed by her family and friends. Vickie was a valued member and Associate Director of the Gemstone Honors program at the University of Maryland. We offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Condolences to John and the pups. Vickie was such a kind, happy person, always great to talk to. I met her through Westie Rescue and she was always doing more than required to help out all the wayward Westies in need of new homes.

I want to offer my condolences to Vickie's family. I had the pleasure of working with Vickie and even met at graduation years ago. She was a wonderful individual and will be missed.
